Spiritual Goal, A Year of Coming Unto Christ by Developing Christlike Attributes: January is Faith

Spiritual Goal, a Year of Coming Unto Christ by Developing Christlike Attributes: January is Faith,

This year I really wanted to focus on a few goals. Inspired by the four categories of the Children and Youth Program. The goal areas I've decided on are Physical Health, Spiritual Health, Mental/Emotional Health and Social Health. I love this ideas of finding goals within these four categories, because it can help us work towards having a more well rounded health and self.

We are told in 2 Nephi 2:25 that "Men are, that they might have Joy". I do strongly believe that our Heavenly Father truly desires us to have joy. Having a healthy mind, body, spirit and relationships helps is to experience joy.

So, as I have thought about my Spiritual Health goals, the thought to focus on a Christlike attribute came to mind. Our purpose of coming to earth for this mortal experience is to become like our Heavenly Father. We become like our Heavenly Father as we strive to become like His Son, Jesus Christ.

I have often referred to Chapter 6 in Preach My Gospel when learning and reflecting on Christlike attributes. In that chapter, there are nine attributes that are discussed. So, I thought January through September, I would work on one of those values each month. October, I'll work on the attribute of teacher. November, gratitude and December, will be Light the World, the attribute of light.

The schedule will go as such:

I'm excited to share on here each month the Christlike attribute we will be working on, along with some resources to help in our study of that value. I hope you will join along with me and encourage your family and friends to do so as well.

This month's Christlike Attribute focus is going to be on Faith. On the gospel topic on the church's website it states this about faith, "Faith is to hope for things which are not seen, but which are true (Heb. 11:1; Alma 32:21), and must be centered in Jesus Christ in order to produce salvation." (Faith)

So, for me faith has everything to do with our Savior, Jesus Christ. In Preach My Gospel it states, "Your faith in Jesus Christ grows as you become better acquainted with Him and His teachings. As you explore the scriptures and search them, you learn of His ways, His love for all people, and His commandments."

Faith most definitely is an action word. Faith in Christ can bring us closer to Christ. Our Savior was the perfect of example of faith, he had perfect faith in His Father and in His mission here on earth. Faith is our first principle of the gospel and I believe it is necessary in helping us develop all of the other Christlike attributes.

I am sharing a worksheet each month to help us record our thoughts during our development of the Christlike attributes. Here is the worksheet for Faith in Christ. Print it out and then you can either put it in a binder or folder or paste it into a notebook. I think I might post it in a notebook, so I can have additional pages to record any thoughts and experiences. Click the free download button below to print the worksheet.

Here are some scripture study resources about Faith from Preach My Gospel:

"What is faith? Alma 32:21, Ether 12:6, Hebrews 11:1; see footnote b, Bible Dictionary, “Faith”, Topical Guide, “Faith”

How do you obtain faith, and what can you do through faith? 2 Nephi 25:29, 2 Nephi 26:13, Mosiah 4:6–12, Alma 32, Helaman 15:7–8, Ether 12:7–22, Moroni 7:33, Romans 10:17, Hebrews 11

What blessings come through faith? Mosiah 3:17, Mosiah 5:1–15, Helaman 5:9–12, John 14:6"

Here are some other great resources and ideas on Faith to help with your study, but remember faith is an action. The growth comes as we put our faith in Christ into action.

Here's an idea, begin each day and end each night with prayer to our Heavenly Father, in our Savior's name. You might want to begin your study with prayer.

Here are a some videos you could watch:

Finding Faith in Christ

Reach Up to Him in Faith (This one is so good!)

Here are some articles that would be great to study. You could print them out and highlight what stands out to you:

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, by Elder Kevin W. Pearson

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, President Marion G. Romney

Faith in Jesus Christ, By Elder Russell M. Nelson

Faith in Jesus Christ, By James O. Mason

“Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ”, Elder Dallin H. Oaks

Finding Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Elder Robert D. Hales

Ponder each day on your faith in Christ. Strive to increase your knowledge and relationship with Him. Partake of the atonement and power of Jesus Christ. Use the worksheet to record your thoughts and experiences throughout the month!

I've also decided to offer the picture of "Jesus Loves Me", that you can print to help you remember that Faith and Christ go hand in hand. It is the perfect size to keep in your scriptures. Click the link below to download the picture of Christ.

I'm so excited for this opportunity to come unto Christ, through striving to be more like him. I hope that studying the attributes of Christ will bless your life as well. I'd love to hear your experiences, leave comments, message me or tag me in your posts!
