2017 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for August Week 3 or 4: I should do things on the Sabbath that will help me stay close to Heavenly Father.

Ideas for August Week 3 or 4 LDS Primary Sharing Time,

2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right

August 2017 Scripture: “If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things” (Articles of Faith 1:13)

August 2017 Song: Song: “I’m Trying to Be like Jesus” (CS, 78–79)

August Week 3 Topic: I should do things on the Sabbath that will help me stay close to Heavenly Father.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!

Sharing Time Instruction:

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "I should do things on the Sabbath that will help me stay close to Heavenly Father."

Ask they primary children why they think it is important to to things on the Sabbath that will help them stay close to their Heavenly Father?

Explain to the primary children that Heavenly Father has given us a commandment to keep the Sabbath day holy, to keep the Sabbath day holy means that we will do the things on the Sabbath day that will help us stay close to our Heavenly Father.

If you'd like invite the primary children to memorize the commandment found in Exodus 20:8. Say the scripture with the primary children. Invite them to point to their heads when they say the word "Remember". Keep repeating until the children have it memorized.

Explain that you are going to play a little activity of things we can do on the Sabbath, that can help us stay close to Heavenly Father...

On the board place the pictures face down in rows & columns, like above (see download for images) Explain to the primary children that they are going to play a matching game. A primary child will be invite to come up and turn over two pieces of paper. He/she is trying to match the picture with the saying.

For example, the saying would say, "Spending quiet time with your family". The picture would be the picture of a family spending time together.

If they are a match then discuss with the primary children how that action can help them stay close to their Heavenly Father.

If it is not a match, turn both papers back over and invite another child to come up and turn two papers over, trying to make a match.

Continue until each action is discussed or time runs out.

Invite the primary children to think throughout the week, the things they can do on the Sabbath that can help them stay close to their Heavenly Father.  To put those actions into practice.

Share your testimony on the topic.

Matching Game: Things We can Do on the Sabbath to help us Stay Stay Close to Heavenly Father: (See download above for printables for the game)

Spending quiet time with your family: Picture of Family: Discussion could include that families are important to Heavenly Father's plan. We can make good memories with our family and strengthen family bonds, this can help us stay close to our Heavenly Father.

Attending all your Church meetings: Picture of a church building: Discussion could include that when we attend our church meetings ready to learn from the Holy Ghost, we can learn more about our Heavenly Father and how to return to Him.

Partake worthily of the sacrament: Picture of the Sacrament: Discussion could include that as we worthily partake of the sacrament our hearts and minds are turned toward the Savior. We have a desire to become better and appreciate all that the Savior and Heavenly Father have done for us. This helps us stay close to our Heavenly Father.

Studying the gospel: Picture of Scripture Study: Discussion could include that as we read the scriptures, the Friend Magazine and work on Faith in God and learning more about the gospel, we will come closer to our Heavenly Father and understand the things he desires us to do.

Serving others: Picture of children serving: When we serve others we are serving God. We are being his hands, service brings us closer to our Heavenly Father because we are helping him and loving his children.

Writing letters: Picture of a letter: Discussion might include that writing letters to missionaries or letters of gratitude to family members, teachers and/or friends help us focus on gratitude and is also a form of service.

Writing in your journal: Picture of a journal: Discussion might include that writing in our journal helps us reflect on the things that are happening in our lives. It is a way to keep our own personal history.  As we write in our journals we can recognize our Heavenly Father's hand in our lives.

Family history work: Picture of family history book and pictures: Discussion might include that as we do family history work we are doing what our Heavenly Father has asked us to do. We are helping others do, what they can not do for themselves. We are helping to unite families, we are learning about our ancestors and we are turning our hearts towards our ancestors and our Heavenly Father.
