This past month, I have noticed an emphasis in our word being placed on the Sacrament. In a recent 5th Sunday combined lesson we discussed the importance of improving our Sabbath day observance. I know that it will take effort, but I feel like it is a worth while effort to come close to our Heavenly Father and Savior.
I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family. Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest." On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.
For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is:

Family Home Evening Instruction:
Show a picture of the temple. Ask your family how they feel when they see a picture of the temple? Ask your family the importance of the temple? Ask your family how they should act as they enter the temple and when they are on temple grounds? Discuss with your family that the temple is a sacred holy place. As place where ordinance work occurs. We are reverent in the temple and on the temple grounds, because it show obedience and love for our Heavenly Father. We do not speak louder then a whisper when inside the temple.
Show a picture of a baptismal font. Ask your family how they feel when they see a picture of the font? Ask your family the importance of the Baptismal font? Ask your family how they should act as they enter the room where the font is? Discuss with your family that the baptismal font is another place where an ordinance is performed, we should also show reverence and respect to our Heavenly Father when this ordinance takes place.
Show a picture of the chapel. Ask your family how they feel when they see a picture of the chapel? Ask your family the importance of the chapel? Ask your family how they should act as they enter the chapel? Discuss with you family that the chapel is an ordinance room. In the chapel we take part in the sacrament, which is an ordinance. We should also show reverence and respect in the chapel. Discuss with your family some things you can do as you enter the chapel to show reverence and respect to your Heavenly Father. (some ideas might include: that if we need to talk then we whisper; we sit reverently; we come prepared to be instructed by the spirit; we listen to the speakers; we think about the Savior and ways we can keep our covenants as we partake of the sacrament; etc)
Play the following video: The Sabbath is A Delight
Discuss with your family how the Sabbath is a gift from God. Elder Nelson in his General Conference address speaks about throwing out the list about what is okay and not okay to do on Sunday. The important question to ask ourselves is, "What sign do I want to give to God?" (I recommend that you and your family might listen to or read this talk).
Elder Ballard says, "Our primary goal is for everyone to have a spiritual experience and a strengthening faith i n our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ through Sabbath day observance." (this came from a training video showed to us during our 5th Sunday meeting)
Discuss as a family what are some things that your family can do to make family time more meaningful and how to meet the goal of having every family member "have a spiritual experience and a strengthening faith in our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ..."
More great resources are, "The Sabbath Day"and "Church Leaders Call for Better Observance of Sabbath Day".
Close with a Family Prayer.
