Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants 89-92 Resources and Insights,

Last week, we discussed creating an environment in our homes for gospel learning. That our Heavenly Father wants us to be close to Him and to learn and grow. We also studied about our Savior and how He offers us peace and hope.

This week, we will be discussing the Word of Wisdom and the promised blessings that come to us as we live the principle. We will also be learning about how the First Presidency holds the "key of the kingdom" and how they give us guidance and protection, as we listen and follow their counsel.

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

I have always been so intrigued about the Word of Wisdom!! I think it is so cool, because it is a principle with a promise!! ♥️♥️

Throughout my life I’ve always felt it so important that I try to live the Word of Wisdom to its fullest. But was does that mean?!? I think that it means, we learn and study the principle and we apply that principle into our life. Trying our best to live it, seeking repentance when we fall short and always understanding it’s importance!

I understand the importance of living the Word of Wisdom. My Papa (grandpa) who I thought the world of, passed away at the age of 52. I was only 11. He was such an amazing man, who I loved so much. He could not give up smoking. Addiction, is real and it’s consequences are real. I know that the blessings that come into our lives as we keep the Word of Wisdom are huge!!

I am just so grateful for this revelation given to Joseph from the Lord! We see the relevance of it even more today! Which makes me gain an even stronger testimony that it comes from the Lord!!

As I said earlier, I think it is so awesome that it comes with a promise!! Elder Packer said, “While the Word of Wisdom requires strict obedience, in return it promises health, great treasures of knowledge, and that redemption bought for us by the Lamb of God, who was slain that we might be redeemed.”

Isn’t that such a wonderful promise!!! ♥️♥️

Day 2

Have you heard the phrase, “you don’t know what you’ve got, until it’s gone”? From my experience this applies very well to the health of our bodies. For instance, my hubby never realized how extremely important your heels are. But now that he injured then, he realizes, how extremely important they are to be able to walk, stand, drive, to just get around etc.

Our health is important! Both our physical and mental health!! I’ve always been one to feel like the Word of Wisdom is important. I’ve tried to live it throughout my life. But, have I always lived this principle to its fullest? Hmm… let’s just say I think I could be better at moderating my candy intake & eating more whole foods. I also could better at going to bed earlier. The beauty of life is that we can study things out, we can pray, we can repent, and we can make changes and strive to be better.

Our bodies house our spirits and together they create our soul, how important is it then that we take the time and effort to take care of them!!! We can make every excuse, but when it comes down to it, we make time for the things that are important to us. I’m grateful for the Word of Wisdom & for the reminder to put taking care of my body as one of my priorities 😊

What things do you do to take care of your body?

Day 3:

Tonight, we were discussing the First Presidency. In the Come, Follow Me manual it says to read some recent messages from the members of the First Presidency. I love that our prophet and apostles have social media accounts and that they frequently post messages.

We looked up President Nelson’s most recent post. It was about avoiding contention and focusing on cooperation, excellence, respect and friendship (the Olympic ideals)

I loved this quote and I completely agree with it. We are not commanded to love one another, only if they agree with you or have your same opinion. We are however to Love One Another. Without exceptions. We can have differing opinions and still respect each other, be kind and love each other.

Our prophet speaks the words of the Lord!! The adversary seeks to divide God’s children, stir up contention and hatred.

If you think about it, the adversary’s way only leads to sorrow. Where the Lord’s way brings happiness, peace and hope. As the primary song says, “Choose the right way, and be happy”. ❤️

Day 4:

I have to say, that I have been one to witness many little miracles throughout my life. Times, when you just have to stop and be appreciative to your Father in Heaven!

There’s a scripture that says, “Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (D&C 88:63) I have found that as I draw closer to my Savior, the spirit is with me and everything just seems to work out. Even when there are trials or things aren’t going well, I’m given just what I need to press on. The strength, the patience & the understanding.

I feel like the above scripture goes well with one of the scriptures we are studying this week, “Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good, if ye walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith ye have covenanted one with another.” (D&C 90:24) I do have the faith that things will work out ♥️

As we speak of miracles, I’ve sat and pondered on when I have seen the Lord’s hand in my life. When I was young I was out riding my horse. My horse started to buck and it was running the side of my body into a fence. I grabbed onto the barbed wire part of the fence as I we down and the horse stepped on me. I was able to get up & hobble into the house where my mom was. Miraculously, I walked away with a pinky finger that needed a few stitches and just a few bangs & bruises, nothing serious.

There have been little instances when something could have been catastrophic, but some how the catastrophe was avoided. You know, those close calls. I have felt of the comfort and love of my Savior during my hardest trials! I know he cares & loves us!

I think of my husband falling off of the ladder recently. Things could have been so much worse. The prompting came to jump, rather than go down with the ladder. By listening to the prompting, he avoided hitting his head, neck or back. I do believe that the spirit can enlighten our mind in such circumstances.

A we are living worthy of the companionship of the spirit, we will be prompted to be miracle workers. I’m so grateful for sweet friends who listened to those promptings and have brought us treats or who have just checked in. Their acts of kindness have helped us feel loved. Isn’t that what the Savior wants? To help others feel loved ♥️♥️

I encourage you to take a moment to ponder on when you have seen the Lord’s hand in your life. Here’s a great talk:

Day 5:

What faith the early saints like Vienna Jaques, must have had, to consecrate all they had to building up Zion. I’ve read histories of my own ancestors who like Vienna, gave their money, resources and time to building up Zion.

We too have been asked and make covenants to live a consecrated life. I think one excellent way we do this is as we serve to the best of our abilities in our callings.

I found an excellent talk by Elder Christofferson, he points out that a consecrated life consists of our time and our choices. How do we choose to spend our time, do we choose good or evil, are our choices aligned with our Father’s will.

I love that he points out, the importance of integrity, in living a consecrated life. Integrity is doing what we know to be right. We have a desire to be honest and do good because we love our Father. Our love for Him, trumps the fear of man.

I am grateful for our agency, I’m grateful for the companionship of the Holy Ghost & I’m grateful for the opportunity that the Lord gives us to make choices, to participate in His work and to give of our time, talents and even resources in building up Zion. ♥️

Day 6:

Can you say that Jesus is your friend? Have you developed a relationship with Him? Have you gained a witness of Him?

Today, I spent 4 and a half hours listening to an apostle, the area President, area seventy, presiding Bishop, temple president, mission president and all of their wives! What a privilege and blessing!

If I was to sum up the overall message from the two meetings I attend, I would say that first is, we must gain our own witness of our Savior. As we do we can find peace in a turbulent world and joy amidst our trials. Second, we are to help those we serve to gain their own witness of the Savior.

I LOVE that President Hinckley states that Jesus is his friend. I have gained my own witness of the Savior. That witness has came as I have turned to Him. As I have invited Him to be an essential part of my life. As I have turned to Him for strength and comfort. As I have learned of Him while studying the scriptures. And as I have trusted in Him and His role as my Savior. ♥️ I love my Savior! He is my brother. I’m grateful that He has given us latter day prophets and apostles!

As @dalegrenlund entered the chapel today, I was just filled with the spirit, and the witness came that He is an apostle of God and a special witness of the Savior! I am grateful for the spirit I felt throughout both meetings! I know that we are all loved by our Heavenly Father and He desires that we love, truly love one another. God’s plan is about people! People becoming like Him and returning to Him & I firmly believe that He will give us what we need to do both. ♥️

Here is where I found the statement from President Hinckley:
