2018 Primary Sharing Time Ideas for February Week 4: If I keep the commandments, I can live with Heavenly Father again

Ideas for February Week 4 LDS Primary Sharing Time,

2018 Sharing Time Outline Theme: I am a Child of God

February 2018 Sharing Time Topic: The Earth Was Created for Heavenly Father’s Children

February 2018 Song: “My Heavenly Father Loves Me” (CS, 228–29)

February Week 4 Topic: If I keep the commandments, I can live with Heavenly Father again.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!  (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes)

Sharing Time Instruction:

Begin Sharing Time, by showing the primary children the week's theme poster invite them to repeat, "If I keep the commandment, I can live with Heavenly Father again."

Ask the primary children what it says we need to do to live with Heavenly Father again?  (Keep the commandments)

What are Commandments??
Read the following quote to the primary children, about what commandments are:
"Commandments are the laws and requirements that a loving Heavenly Father gives His children to bless them, protect them, and guide them back to Him." (Come Follow Me: Sept Commandments)

Why does Heavenly Father give us commandments??
Play the following short video clip and invite the primary children to think about why Heavenly Father gives us commandments: Why does God give us commandments?

After the video ask the primary children, why they think Heavenly Father gives us commandments? Discuss with the primary children that just like there are rules on the road to keep us safe while we are driving, or rules in our house to keep us safe. Heavenly Father gives us commandments, because he loves us and wants us to return safely home to him. Commandments help guide us on our path to eternal life.

(Next Choose one of the Activities below, what best fits your primary)

(Click here for instructions on how to make the heart shaped bean bag)
Activity 1 idea:
Explain to the primary children that we are going to sing the song, "Keep the Commandments", as we sing the song we will pass around a bean bag (or stuffed animal or ball). The pianist is going to randomly stop throughout the song.

When she stops, whoever has the bean bag will get to say a commandment and how they commandment can help them return to Heavenly Father. For example if the song stops and I am holding the bean bag I would say, "Obeying my parents can help me return to my Heavenly Father. Because I know they love me and when I obey them I will be safe and we will have a peaceful home)

Continue passing the bean bag and stopping randomly to have the children share commandments and how they can help them live with Heavenly Father again.

Activity 2 idea:
Give each of the primary children a piece of paper and invite them to draw a picture of a commandment they can follow and how it can help them live with Heavenly Father again. When finished, invite the primary children to come up and share their pictures, with the rest of the primary children.

(I'm also including a printable that could be used if you want to do the idea from the sharing time outline with the scriptures from the Doctrine & Covenants. Having the children read the scriptures as a class and decide the commandment the scripture is talking about and draw it in each of the boxes)

Close by sharing your testimony about how Heavenly Father gives us commandments because He loves us and if we keep His commandments we can live with Him again.
