2017 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for October Week 2: We receive the ordinances of salvation through the priesthood.

Ideas for October Week 2 LDS Primary Sharing Time,

2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right

October 2017 Sharing Time Topic: Blessings of the Priesthood Are Available to All

October 2017 Scripture: “And also all they who receive this priesthood receive me, saith the Lord” (D&C 84:35).

October 2017 Song: Your Choice

October Week 2 Topic: We receive the ordinances of salvation through the priesthood.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!  (All printables for this sharing time can be found and printed by clicking the "Free Printable Download" button. They are free and can be printed and used for personal and church purposes)

Sharing Time Instruction:

I really liked the attention activity from the Outline:

"Have one child hold an opened umbrella. Let a few children stand under it. Compare the umbrella to the priesthood. Point out that if it were raining, all the children under the umbrella would receive the blessing of staying dry, not just the one holding it. Similarly, God has provided, through His priesthood, a way for all His children to be blessed. Through the priesthood we receive the ordinances of salvation that allow us to return and live with God again."

I do feel that it is so important to point out that the blessings of the temple are available to everyone.

Show the primary children the week's them poster and invite them to repeat, "We receive the ordinances of Salvation through the Priesthood"

Ask the primary children if they remember what an ordinance is?  Explain that "an ordinance is a sacred, formal act performed by the authority of the priesthood. Some ordinances are essential to our exaltation. These ordinances are called saving ordinances. They include baptism, confirmation, ordination to the Melchizedek Priesthood (for men), the temple endowment, and the marriage sealing. With each of these ordinances, we enter into solemn covenants with the Lord." (Ordinances)

Explain to the primary children that you are going to play a little activity to help them learn more about these ordinances of salvation that they receive through the Priesthood.

Place a picture of the Savior at the top of the board, explain that part of God's plan is that we return to His presence. To return to His presence we need to receive certain ordinances.

Before, primary cut the each of the printables into puzzle pieces and place in an envelope. Number the envelopes, 1 for Baptism, 2 for Confirmation, 3 for Priesthood Ordination, 4 for Temple Endowment and 5 for Temple Sealing. Attach the envelope with the puzzle pieces onto a blank peace of card stock (This is what they can tape their completed puzzle onto). Give each group some tape also, A tip is to place a bunch of pieces of folded masking tape onto a piece of wax paper, put another piece of wax paper on top.

Give a puzzle to each class. (If you have a small primary split with less than 5 classes or a large primary with more than 5 classes, split the primary into 5 groups)

Invite the primary children to put their puzzle together and then invite them as a group to discuss that ordinance.

One at a time invite the primary children to come up, in this order (Baptism, Confirmation, Priesthood Ordination, Temple endowment, Temple Sealing) bringing their puzzle and  explain what they discusses as a group about that ordinance. Place the ordinance on the board.  Continue with each ordinance.

Close by sharing your testimony on the Ordinances of Salvation that we receive through the priesthood.

(FYI images used in the printables are from lds.org, except for the Temple Endowment picture which was photographed by myself)
