2016 LDS Sharing Time Ideas for July Week 2: Families are blessed through sacred temple ordinances.

2016 Sharing Time Outline Theme: "I Know the Scriptures Are True"

July 2016 Sharing Time Topic: The Temple Is a House of God

July 2016 Scripture:
“Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally” (“The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” paragraph 3).

July 2016 Song:  “I Love to See the Temple” (CS 95)

July Week 2 Topic: Families are blessed through sacred temple ordinances.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine.

Sharing Time Instruction:

Before Primary, place pictures of the temple around the room (on the backs of the temples should be the "Families Blessed through temple ordinances" Printable, see download above)

Begin Sharing Time, by inviting the primary children to sing, "Families Can Be Together Forever".  Invite the primary children to stand up each time they sing the words, "Family" or "Families".  When they have finished singing the song, invite the primary children to share what the song is about. Then ask them, "What do families need to do to be together forever?" (Answer: They need to be sealed together in the Temple)

Show the primary children the week's Theme Poster and invite them to repeat, "Families are blessed through sacred temple ordinances."

Explain to the primary children that around the room are pictures of temples. On the backs of the temple pictures are blessing we can receive through sacred temple ordinances.

Invite the primary children to sing, "I Love to See the Temple". Explain that as they sing the song you are going to be looking for the very best singers. You could even where your "Special Singer Detector Glasses" (aka, funny glasses) while doing this. Pick 5 primary children who are singing really good, place a sticker on them, so you remember who they are. These children will be the ones to help go pick the temple pictures.

Invite the first primary child with a sticker up and invite them to go and choose one of the temple pictures. Read the way the temple can bless our families, that is on the back of the picture. Discuss this with the primary children and invite them to share any examples of how the temple has blessed their family.

Continue doing this with each of the temple pictures.

Here are the ways we are blessed through temple ordinances (see printable, these will be on the back of the temple pictures):

Families are blessed as they are sealed together forever: One of the ordinances of the temple is sealing families. Our families are blessed to know that even after death our families will be united and be able to be together forever.

Families are blessed as we do work for the dead: In the temples we are able to do temple ordinances for family members who have passed on. As we do the work for our ancestors our families will be blessed. We will also continually bind more branches of our family to us.

Families are blessed as we prepare for the temple: Everyone can work on preparing for the temple. We do this by keeping our baptismal covenants, keeping the commandments, and trying to do what our Heavenly Father wants us to do. As we do these things our relationship will Heavenly Father will be strengthened and our families will be blessed.

Families are blessed as search for family names:  Great blessings come as we take our own families names to the temple to do the work for them that they can not do for themselves.  As we do this we grow closer to those family members. We will also receive divine protection and help.

Families are blessed as members attend the temple for themselves: As we attend the temple for ourselves, taking out our own endowments. We make covenants with God. We receive instructions and guidance. To enter the temple we must be worthy. Our families will be blessed as we keep the commandments and gain the guidance needed.

If there is any time left, you can give the primary children the temple coloring page printable. You can have them draw pictures of their families with the temple.
