Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants D&C 14-17

Come, Follow Me 2021 Doctrine and Covenants D&C 14-17,

Last week, we studied about the Joseph Knight family who were so loyal to the restoration of the church, always there to help out whenever needed. We also studied about how when questions arise in our study we can take it to the Lord, as Joseph and Oliver did about baptism. Because they asked of the Lord, John the Baptist came and restored the Aaronic Priesthood. We receive the blessings of this priesthood daily in our lives!

This week, we get to study about the Whitmer family, as well as, the amazing experience of the Three Witnesses! I've already been fascinated with what I have studied!

Throughout this blog post you will find images I create daily, which I am offering as free printables. As well as insights and links to resources to help with individual, family and even class room study. Remember to check back throughout the week as more printables and resources are added daily.

Day 1:

I studied & studied tonight, looking for something that could describe the Whitmer family in the early day’s. Finally, this phrase stood out, “Stand close together and lift where we stand”.
In studying about the Whitmer family, they were there for Joseph and Oliver and the work of the restoration when they were needed. They stood together in the work. They opened their home and provided a safe place for the translation of the Book of Mormon. They really did lift where they stood.
We can learn from this, that the Lord needs each of us, to help build and strengthen His kingdom. We are each an important part of this church! We can lift where we stand. Whether it be in our callings, in our ministering assignments, in our community or in our own homes, we have an important work to do.
What thoughts do you have on this topic? How have you been able to participate in God’s work, by lifting where you stand & how has your life been blessed?
Here’s a great talk, I found this quote within it. I’ll share more links of what I studied on the blog as well.

Day 2:

One thing that stood out to me in the revelation given for David Whitmer was, “you shall receive the Holy Ghost, which giveth utterance, that you may stand as a witness of the things of which you shall both hear and see” (D&C 14:8)

David Whitmer was a wonderful witness of the Book of Mormon, he never denied what He saw, even when he fell away from the church & he bore witness of it even on his death bed.

As you think of the words “stand as a witness”, what comes to your mind? One thing that comes to my mind is the Young Women theme of my youth, that stated, “We will stand as witnesses of God at all times, and in all things and in all places” This phrase was a standard by which I’ve always tried to live my life, sometimes I fall short and gratefully I can repent and try to do better. To stand as a witness of God always, means that we are truly His disciples.

I really love the phrase to stand as a witness! We can stand as a witness for each thing we have gained a testimony of. Like David, we can stand as a witness of the Book of Mormon. I’ve gained a witness by the power of the Holy Ghost and that witness is strengthened and reaffirmed each time I study the Book of Mormon!

What has stood out to you so far in your study this week? What are your thoughts on standing as a witness?

Day 3:

As I was studying D&C 17 today, this phrase stood out to me! Because, it all comes back to faith!! It was by exercising faith that Joseph obtained a vision of God the Father & Jesus Christ, it was by faith he obtained the gold plates, it was by faith he obtained the ability to translate.

This full verse of D&C 17:2 states, “And it is by your faith that you shall obtain a view of them, even by that faith which was had by the prophets of old.” This verse speaking to Oliver Cowdrey, Martin Harris and David Whitmer. It was by faith that they were able to obtain the opportunity to be the three witnesses. To see the plates, the breast plate, the sword of Laban, the Urim & Thummim and the directors (Liahona). As well as see Moroni!  How marvelous is the power of faith!

For us, we can think about what our faith helps us obtain. For me, by faith I have obtained my testimony. My testimony is ever growing as I exercise my faith and act upon gospel principles. I have obtained a witness of the Book of Mormon through the Holy Ghost, because I have had faith, to study it and pray about it. Faith in my Savior and His atoning sacrifice, helps me to obtain forgiveness for those things I repent of. I could go on and on about all of the blessings I have obtained in my life because of faith!

Take a moment to just ponder on what you have obtained by faith ♥️

Day 4:

Don’t you love this phrase!!! David was told that he was called to assist. When I think of this phrase I think about how each of us, are called to assist God in His work of saving souls.

Today, I was able to listen to a presentation about being a hero. It was given by Paul Parkinson. It was fabulous!! I felt so inspired to do good. The thing is, God’s work invites us to assist Him in being there for others. Often times it is just in small ways. It takes us being aware of others and sensitive to what they might need. I fully believe that the Holy Ghost is there to help us to know where we are needed. Remember anything that inspires us to do good is revelation and is given to us through the Holy Ghost.

As a family we watched Paul’s movie, “Rising Above” It effected each one of us. It led to some great discussions. The movie is about bullying, lies and rising above it all. We even found a way to relate it to the persecution that Joseph Smith endured. I don’t want to give away the movie at all, but I do want to say how important it is to be the one who stands for right, who can be a hero in another’s life. A true friend, someone who is brave enough, to stand up for others. God invites us to love our neighbor. That is one very important way we can assist in His work!

What thoughts do you have about being “called to assist”?
