Candies, Chocolate and Caramel on an APPLE, YES Please! Caramel Apple Decorating with Kids!

This past weekend, my mom had a fun activity for the grandkids!! Personal caramel apples! How fun right, the kids loved designing their own apples and of course thoroughly enjoyed eating them!

Here's the how to with some tips:

First... Gather some bowls, plates, Popsicle sticks, apples, candies, melted caramel, grandkids and wet wipes!

Caramel options, I have done both ways:

Make your own caramel coating:

Here's a recipe I found that is similar to the one I have used: Carnival Caramel Apples Recipe

The other option and less complicated with fewer ingredients:

Buy two (14 oz) bags of individually wrapped caramels, Unwrap all of the caramels. This was a GREAT job for the grandkids, they loved helping unwrap them and putting them into the pan or microwaveable bowl.  Decide if you are going to do the stove method or the microwave method. Note, I have not tried the microwave method.

Stove method, place all of the unwrapped caramels into a heavy pan, add 2-3 tablespoons of milk or water (the more milk/water the runnier). Heat caramels on stove over medium heat, stirring frequently. It is done when all of the caramels are melted.

Microwave method, place all the unwrapped caramels into a microwave safe dish with 2-3 tablespoons of milk or water. Heat in the microwave for 2 minutes, stirring once (so probably at 1 minute pull it out and give it a stir. Tip spray your spoon with cooing spray) Stir again at the end, making sure all caramels are melted and combined.

Now it's time to get everything else ready while the caramel cools for just a minute.

Prep, the plates. We used plastic plates and we sprayed them with cooking spray.  Prep the apples, the apples should be cleaned, completely dry and stems removed.  Place a Popsicle stick in the top of each apple.

Add all of the topping options into some bowls. For our kiddos we had, crumbled oreos, gummy bears, sprinkles, coconut, reeces pieces candies, and nuts (make sure their are no allergies).  The options are endless though, some other great ideas would be, candy corns, M&M candies, crushed up candy bars, my favorite is white chocolate and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on it. Here is a link to that recipe: Apple Pie Caramel Apples.

If you are going to use chocolate, now is the time to melt it. If you would just like to drizzle the chocolate then place it in a plastic bag and heat up for 30 seconds, take it out and squish the bag, place it back in the microwave and heat for another 30 seconds, take it out and squish again, continue doing this until the chocolate is melted. To drizzle, cut the corner off of the baggie.

If you would like to dip it in the chocolate then you will need to put the chocolates in a microwave safe bowl/container and heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds, take it out and stir, place it back in for 30 seconds, take it out and stir, continue until the chocolate is melted.

Okay now the fun starts!! We dipped the apples for the kiddos so they were not having to be anywhere near the hot pan. We dipped it and placed it on their plate and let them have fun decorating with all of the goodies.  The chocolate in the bag made it super easy for them to drizzle the chocolate over the apple.

The Apples are done, now what?  We wanted the apples to set up a little before they started eating them so we went on a nice fall walk. Other options would be to make a fun craft, need some ideas here's a bunch: Halloween Ideas or watch a fun Halloween show.

All set-up ENJOY!!! Eat it right off of the stick or you can cut the apple into pieces.

Check out these ones, that I cut the apple before hand, then drizzled caramel, chocolate and goodies onto!!

Love this, then you will love the Marshmallow Ghosts!! Check them out HERE

  3. I usually cut them in half, scrape out the seeds and stuff with a spoon, then add them to a baking dish with a bit of water. I cover it in tin foil and bake until soft. It will vary depending on the size.
Now that I have my instant pot, I’ve been cutting them into smaller chunks and cooking them in there.
When cooked, you scrape the squash out of the hard skin.
Some people peel the skin off before cooking but it is hard to do.ghormeh sabzi

  5. Yes, soda bread does will be predisposed to lose its softness the next day. One of our readers advocated adding cream cheese to the recipe for extra softness… but we haven’t examined that but.iranian food near me
