Sharing Time Instruction:
Begin sharing time by inviting 10 children to come up to the front of the room. Give each child a picture of the oil lamp. Explain to the children that Jesus spoke of a parable of the 10 virgins. There were five that were wise and five that were foolish. The five who were wise brought with them extra oil for their lamps. Give five of the children a picture of oil. When the bridegroom came those who had the extra oil were able to fill there lamps and go and meet the bridegroom. Those five who were foolish were unable to fill their lamps and were unable to borrow any oil. They were unable to meet with the bridegroom.
Invite the primary children to share their thoughts on what the parable means. Thank them for their thoughts. Put on the board the month poster, "Jesus Christ will come again". Explain that we know that Jesus will come to this earth again. The ten virgins represent us. If we are to be like the wise virgins we will need to have enough oil for our lamps. We do this by living the gospel. Give each child a drop (see printable below). Explain that each time we do something to follow the Savior we are adding a drop to our lamps. Invite the children to think about something they have done or can do. Have them write or draw a picture of what they can do. Then invite some of the children to come up and share what they have done or can do to follow the Savior. Discuss with the children ways they can live their lives each day so they will be prepared for the second coming of the Savior.
Write on the board: "What we know about the Second Coming". Using the printable below. Place a the word strip scriptures around the room. Invite a child to go and find one. Place it on the board and read it. Discuss with the primary children.
Close by sharing your testimony of the second coming of the Savior and how living the gospel each day will help us prepare for His coming.
