For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is:
Print onto card stock and cut into puzzle pieces.
Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family. Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest." On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.
Further preparation: Print printable and cut into puzzle pieces. Gather a bandana or hand towel for a blind fold.
Have a member of the family member say the prayer
Discuss any family business
Follow-up with last weeks FHE.
Scripture: Read: D&C 21:4-7
Family Home Evening Instruction:
Begin Family Home Evening by blind folding one member of the family. Tell them that before them is a puzzle and you would like to have them put the puzzle together. Let them try on their own for a minute. Then ask them if they think it would be easier if they had some guidance? Then, begin guiding them with your words where each puzzle piece goes. (see printable above for puzzle)
When the puzzle is complete have the family member take off the blindfold and read the phrase on the completed puzzle. Explain that our Heavenly Father has given us prophets to give us aid and instruction to help us safely make it through this life to return to live in His presence. It is our responsibility to follow the guidance the prophets give us.
Read the experience President Monson shares in the First Presidency Message: "Follow the Prophet", (See link)
Discuss the experience President Monson shared and how following the counsel of an Apostle help to bless and strengthen his life.
Invite each family member to think about ways they have followed the prophet and have been blessed. Have them think about Conference talks. Invite them to share their experiences.
Share your testimony with your family about Following the Prophets.
Close with a Family Prayer.
