Family Home Evening on: Family Fun Activity (Serving Others Category: Faith in God Activity)

One of the funnest activities was when I had my son help plan a "Family Fun Activity". He needed to do this to pass off a requirement in cub scouting.  It was simple, just watching a movie together, but fun because he planned it.  I thought it would be a great idea to have each of my kids take turns in planning something fun that they would like to do as a family.  One of the Faith in God Activities is to "Plan and hold a parent-child activity, such as a dinner, picnic, hike, day trip, or service project". So, I decided to base Family Home Evening around this topic.  For ours my son helped plan a family outing in the mountains to eat lunch, 4-wheel and fish. There is just something about being out in nature that helps build family bonds.  Here is the outline:

I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family.  Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest."  On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is:

Preparation: Research places to go and things to do as a family. Make necessary preparations before leaving for activity.

Welcome everyone to Family Night

Have a member of the family member say the prayer

Discuss any family business

Follow-up with last weeks FHE.

Introduce this weeks Topic:  Family Fun Activity (Faith in God Activity: "Plan and hold a parent-child activity, such as a dinner, picnic, hike, day trip, or service project.")

Article of Faith: #7"We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth." (Pearl of Great Price)

Family Home Evening Instruction:

**I would do the planning a day to a week before the family activity.  So you could do the planning the activity for one Family Home Evening and then do the actual Family Fun Activity the next week's Family Home Evening.**

Begin by reading this quote, "Plan and carry out meaningful vacations together, considering our children’s needs, talents, and abilities. Help them create happy memories, improve their talents, and build their feelings of self-worth." - by Robert D. Hales, Strengthening Families: Our Sacred Duty.

Show your family the "Family Fun Planner".  Give them ideas of some activities you could do as a family and invite them to also give some ideas of some activities they think would be fun to do as a family.  Decide on an activity and using the sheet to plan what you will do for the activity and the items you will need.

Read this quote, "Families that play together stay together, especially when their play is uplifting and wholesome. Family vacations, holidays, birthday celebrations, and other activities build strong bonds and feelings of self-worth. The phrase “Remember when we…” is sure to bring love and laughter in the years to come." -Happiness in Family Life

Make the necessary plans. Check the weather if it is an outdoor activity and be prepared.

During the activity look for times to reflect as a family allowing family members to share their thoughts and feelings. **Before leaving for the activity say a pray as a family and upon returning close the activity with a prayer**

Most of all ENJOY each others company, make those memories and family bonds that are so important!

Close with a Family Prayer.
