Indexing Olympic Party...A Worldwide Indexing Event!

Sponsored Post. As always, all thoughts are 100% my own. I love indexing and fully support this event. See the full disclosure.

There are records from all over the world which have been scanned into the indexing program. They are just sitting there waiting for YOU, to get on, read them and insert them into the program so the computer can read them.  Just think these names aren't just names, they are people! Ancestors, your ancestors, my ancestors, someones ancestors who are sitting up there in heaven just waiting for their work to be done, so they can progress.

So... FamilySearch International is sponsoring their third annual “Worldwide Indexing Event,” bringing 72,000 people from around the globe together online during a 72-hour event to save the world’s records by making them searchable to the public. Wouldn't it be so great to be a part of such an amazing event? Well you can, here's how...

Think of the Olympics, it brings people together from all around the world to set records and accomplish great things. As I was thinking about how to join in the event and invite my family and friends to join in also. I wanted to make it FUN. How do we make indexing fun? We make an Olympic event out of it!

To begin the event, give each participant the Olympic Indexing Recorder Card. This card is where they will keep track of what they index.  On the card it gives the following categories

Number of names indexed

Level of Difficulty (by each batch it gives a level of difficulty)

Points scored (by each batch it gives points)

Oldest batch

Invite each participant to keep track of their scores while indexing.  When the event is over tally all of the scores.  Like the Olympics, give awards for each category. That would mean for each category their would be a gold medal winner, a silver medal winner and a bronze medal winner.  Emphasize that everyone is a winner in this work of helping those behind the veil progress! Below is a free download of all of the printables (Decorations, Olympic Recorder Cards, Medals).

How to get started indexing...

First, go to The World's Records Indexing Event and sign up! Please do this between now and July 17th.

Second, invite friends to index with you, use the hashtag #TheWorldsRecords on social media to invite your friends.

Third, download the software to your desktop. You can do this by visiting, https://familysearch.org/worldsrecords scroll down to download.

Fourth, sign in or create an account. If you already have an LDS account, you can use that. You will see a screen like below, to sign into:

Fifth, Index as much as you can between July 15th and July 17th. Remember take pictures of your indexing and share them on social media with the hashtag #TheWorldsRecords. It's easy once signed in, go to the top left hand of the screen by where it says, "My Batches" and click "Download Batch". Choose from the batches available. If it is your first time, start with a "beginning" batch. Use the tips it gives you. You can kind of think of yourself as a detective, trying to decipher the handwriting. If you get stuck on a letter, look at the rest of the document to see if you see that letter somewhere else. Best of LUCK!!

"Every name you index has the potential to help others find their ancestors and help those ancestors receive the necessary ordinances in the temple. Because of your efforts in indexing, historic records can be made searchable online so that lives can be blessed on both sides of the veil. " (October 2014 issue of the New Era Magazine)
