Family Home Evening Instruction:

Begin Family Home Evening by reviewing what we know about baptism. Discuss, why we get baptized, when we get baptized, and how we get baptized. (Why: to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; to follow our Savior's example; it is the first ordinance of the gospel that will set us on the path to exhalation.  When:  One can be baptized after we turn 8 years old.  How: by immersion; by a worthy Aaronic priesthood holder at least 16 years of age that holds the proper keys.) Discuss that when one is baptized they enter into a covenant with Heavenly Father. Discuss what that means.

Then explain that after someone is baptized another very special thing happens.  Explain that you are going to play a game to learn about this special thing.  Give each family member a bell or a cup.  Explain that to play the game you are going to ask them some questions.  If they know the answer to the question they will need to ring their bell or turn their cup over. The first person to ring their bell or turn their cup over will get to answer the question. If they answer correctly they will receive a point. If they answer incorrectly another family member has a chance to answer.  You may want to split you family up into groups or teams.

Here are the questions:

1-  Show your family a picture of Confirmation.  Ask your family what the very special thing is that is happening in the picture?  (Answer: The girl is being confirmed a member of the church)

2-  What priesthood must a worthy male hold to perform the confirmation?  (Answer: Melchizedek Priesthood)

3-  What gift does someone receive when they are confirmed a member of the church? (Answer: The gift of the Holy Ghost)

4-  What does it mean to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost?  (Answer:  The the Holy Ghost can be your constant companion if you keep the commandments)

5-  How does the Holy Ghost speak to us?  (Answer: By a thought in our minds, By a feeling in our Heart, or sometimes we can hear the Holy Ghost)

6- Is the Holy Ghost a member of the Godhead? (Answer: Yes)

7- What is the Holy Ghost's role as a member of the Godhead? (Answer: "The Holy Ghost works in perfect unity with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, fulfilling several roles to help us live righteously and receive the blessings of the gospel." - www.lds.org/topics/holy-ghost?lang=eng)

8-  What are some roles of the Holy Ghost? (Answer: He is a witness of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ; He comforts us; He warns us of dangers; He guides us; It is through him we receive gifts of the spirit; Through his power we are sanctified when we repent; Help us know the truth; Testifies)

9-  What can I do to live my life so I can hear the Holy Ghost? (Answer: Keep the commandments, pray, read scriptures, attend church, follow the Savior, Intend to act upon the promptings etc.)

Thank each family member for participating. Explain that as we listen to the Holy Ghost we will be blessed, we will be closer to our Heavenly Father and on the right path that will lead us back to him.

 Close with a Family Prayer.
