Family Home Evening on Jesus Christ Is Our Savior

I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family.  Our prophet President Monson says, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest."  On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings.

For tonight's Family Home Evening the topic in which I have chosen is: Jesus Christ Is Our Savior.  This is March 2014's Primary Sharing Time Topic for the month.  I believe that it is so important to reiforce with our children what they are learning in primary.  I am very excited to do this family home evening with my family. Hopefully they will be able to help teach by sharing what they have been learning.

Welcome everyone to Family Night

Sing: "I Stand All Amazed" Hymnal 193

Have a member of the family member say the prayer

Discuss any family business

Follow-up with last weeks FHE.

Introduce this weeks Topic: Jesus Christ Is Our Savior

Scripture: Read and Mark:  “We have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world” (1 John 4:14).

Article of Faith: #3 "We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel." Repeat this Article of Faith as a Family. Help each family member to understand the meaning. Help each family member memorize the Article of Faith.

Begin, Family Home Evening by asking family members what the word SAVIOR means?  Discuss this word as a family.  Discussion might include: In the Merriam-Webster dictionary the word savior is defined as, "someone who saves something or someone from danger, harm, failure, etc.".  Give examples of different people who save someone or something from harm. See Printable below.  Have your family play a little matching game, matching the person with what it is they save others from.  (firefighter-burning buildings/fire, lifeguard-drowning, police officer-crime, doctor-illness)

Explain to your family that their is someone who is our greatest Savior, this person has saved us from pain, sorrow and sin. Ask your family if they know who that person is?  Explain that it is our elder brother, Jesus Christ.

Ask your family how a firefighter save people from a fire? Answers could included, that he sprays buildings with water, putting out the fire. Or he goes inside of burning buildings to rescue a person and bring them out safely.  Ask your family how a lifeguard saves people from drowning?  Continue asking this question about a police officer and doctor.  Then, ask your family members how Jesus Christ has saved us from our sins?  Explain that he atoned, meaning he suffered and paid the debt  for each sins. As a family read: Atonement of Jesus Christ.

Play this video for your family: First Principle and Ordinances

Allow each family member to bear their testimonies on how the atonement of Christ affects them personally.

Close with a Family Prayer.
