2017 Sharing Time Outline Theme: Choose the Right

June 2017 Sharing Time Topic: I Choose the Right by Living Gospel Principles

June 2017 Scripture: “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them” (1 Nephi 3:7).

June 2017 Song: “Nephi’s Courage” (CS, 120–21)

June Week 2 Topic: When I pay my tithing, Heavenly Father will bless me.

Preparation:

Prayerfully study and think about what the specific needs of your primary are and how you can teach them this doctrine. The most important thing is to love those you teach and to teach them by the Spirit!! Focus on building their testimonies and helping them come unto Christ!

Sharing Time Instruction:

Show the primary children the week's theme poster and invite them to repeat, "When I pay my tithing, Heavenly Father will bless me."

Ask the primary children what they know about tithing?

Read this quote from President Eyring, "He wants to give us eternal life, the greatest of all His gifts (see D&C 14:7). To receive the gift of living with Him forever in families in the celestial kingdom, we must be able to live the laws of that kingdom (see D&C 88:22).

He has given us commandments in this life to help us develop that capacity. The law of tithing is one of those preparatory commandments. The law is that we give to the Lord one-tenth of all our income. " (The Blessings of Tithing)

So, tithing is a commandment given to us, to help us receive the blessings of eternal life. Just like any commandment we obey it and live it because of our love for Heavenly Father.

On the board place the 10 paper coins.

Invite a primary child to come up, ask them if they were given 10 coins how many of those 10 coins would they need to pay in tithing to Heavenly Father?

Explain that we are only asked to give one-tenth of our income, which if we had 10 coins we would only need to give one.

How do we pay tithing? Show the primary children a tithing slip and envelope. Explain that to pay tithing, we fill out the tithing slip and place the white slip and the money into the envelope and give it to a member of the bishopric. There is also a way to pay tithing online.

Explain that we are promised that we are blessed by Heavenly Father as we pay our tithing. Some of the blessing we can see and others we can't.

Show pictures or items of some of the items that tithing goes towards. (temples, meetinghouses, a hymnbook, the Children’s Songbook, a Primary manual, and the scriptures) Discuss with the primary children why these things are blessings?

Explain that we are also blessed with coming closer to Heavenly Father.  We receive temporal and spiritual blessings. We receive an increased love for our Heavenly Father and his children.

Close by sharing your testimony of tithing.
