July 2016 Relief Society Visiting Teaching Message:

My Thoughts:

As I read through this month's message, I couldn't help think of the divine calling parenthood is. I love that the message is titled, "Our POTENTIAL for Parenthood"! We have each been blessed with that potential. Some of us will experience parenthood in mortality, all of us though have the potential for parenthood in the eternities. The blessing to create in immortality will only come as we live worthy of that celestial glory.

I think it is inspiring to think that we do indeed have both a father and a mother who created us in heaven. Wouldn't it just make sense that we not only wanted to be like our Heavenly Father, but our Mother in Heaven also. She would have to be the most perfect example of motherhood to us. One of the greatest commandments our Father in Heaven has given to us, is that we multiply and replenish the earth. Families are essential to our Heavenly Father's plan.

If you are like me, then you would agree that parenthood is both the hardest, but yet most rewarding calling given on earth. I remember with each of my children the news that I was pregnant brought with it shear joy. With that joy came an overwhelming feeling of responsibility. Each day I wonder if I have done enough to teach my children of their divine nature and great potential. I continually wonder what I can do more. I know though that as I live my life inline with God's teachings and turn to him in parenting my children, He will help me to know what to do.

Now, some will not physically bring children into this world, this does not mean that their parenting potential can not be fulfilled.  Each of us has a profound influence over those around us!

I think of my sister-in-law, she has not had the opportunity to get married yet. But I look at her and see the influence she has over my little nieces. I would say she is like their second mother. She helps them prepare for their dance recitals, she is there to support them. We each can have that kind of influence on others. Think about your calling, think about the women you visit teach. The synonyms for parent are look after and take care of. Don't we do that in our callings, with our nieces and nephews, the women we visit teach, etc.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that parenthood is important to our Heavenly Father. May we each continually recognize that potential and strive to make the most out of it.

Sometimes it's fun to give our sisters something when we go and visit them! Here are some ideas as well as the handout:
